Bristlenose Pleco

A good question for the Plec section of the forum..

Bristlenoses are good kept singly or in pairs, in my experience they are quite easy to breed so getting a pair will either mean investing in many generations of the little wrigglers, or good nutritious food for your other fish.

Regards,
Paul

So your are saying that if I were to get a pair either one of them would be eaten or i would have a tank full of fry?

Sorry, no.

I'm saying they will live together, but if you end up with one of either sex then there's a possibility of baby BN's, that will either be a good source of food for your other fish, or over-run the tank in a catfish invasion.

I originally had just the 1, but now i have 3, they all get on well, and as far as i know they haven't bred yet

IMO with Bristlenoses keeping them alone, in pair or in groups works, provided you have space

i have kept both a pair and singly, with the pair my male was constantly caring for eggs and would disappear for weeks even months at a time, in the end i seperated because he was to busy caring for his fry and not eating very much between groups

I read some were that Plecos are a schooling fish, but I never see more then one in a tank.

ive never seen them in schools!

Yes they like to school. Most fish do. Safety in numbers.
