Four to five weeks should be enough time to cycle the tank. Read up on the Nitrogen cycle if you haven't already.

Why not just put them into a tank that looks exactly like where they are. Give them lots of nice soft plants like water sprite ( Indian fern ). Don't worry about algae. feed them on spirulina discs and egg yoke. and they will be happy chappies.
