I bought a breeding pair of BN plecs yesterday, the male looks plump but the females stomache looks empty, I have tried leaving cucumber in the tank over night, and sinking pellets but she doesn't seem interested.

I have purchased some Algae Wafers off eBay this morning but they won't arrive for a few days now.

Also I have another question, how important is it to have the bottom of the tank clean and free of poop/uneaten food?

I am running a AquaEl Fan 1 Plus filter and the Juwel internal filter (although this will soon be changed to a Fluval U3)

My tank is a Rekord 80 (110L)

Thankyou!

Do give her a chance to settle in; lots of fish ned a few days in a new home before they feel like eating. You could try other fruit and veg; almost anything can be used (but not potatos!). Some, like carrots, might need a bit of pre-cooking to soften them a bit. Bloodworm (live or frozen) is irrestible to most fish.

As for the bottoms of tanks, well, you have to reach a sensible compromise. Obviously you musn't have too much crud hanging around down there, especially if you have bottom dwelling fish, but there's no need to be obsessive about it. Uneaten food is more of a concern than poo and should be syphoned out.
