At the weekend, I moved décor around. The only fake thing in the tank is a large twisty hollow log. It was previously bedded flat in the gravel, but its now stood ontop of a pile of rocks. I noticed yesterday that my two albino Bristlesnoses were getting into it from underneath and I could see their noses poking out of air holes at the top of it.

However, the holes were not big enough for them to squeeze out of. So today, I was a bit worried that they might not have been able to find their way back down and out, so I scraped out a wider hole at the top. It was then that I noticed they had laid about 30 x 3mm orange eggs inside the décor, about three inches from the hole that I've created.

I'm really surprised because they are less than a year old and not that big (about 3 inches). Neither actually has bristles, so I thought they were both female. I guess that big water change I did when I moved décor round has triggered them to spawn.

Despite being disturbed and now having an access hole right near the spawn site, one of them is staying in the décor and only coming out now and then to busy around the hole I made.

So, what will happen next. Will the eggs be safe, or will they abandon them? If fry hatch, will they stay inside the décor.

Its a community tank. Tigers Barbs, Denison Barbs, Rummy Nose, Cardinals, Firemouth, Apistos and a Krib. Lots of plants and lots of hiding places. Whats the likelihood of them surviving?

From my understanding of BN's, you'll probably get a fair number to survive, sounds like you have some good hiding places for the fry, and the parents will probably look after them well.

bn moms are done once she lays the eggs. dad will raise them in the "cave" til free swimming, then they are on their own.
