ok, i dont know much about fish so bare with me!

My boyfriends dad has these 2 fish in the same tank, and the catfish attacks the oscar sometimes, mainly at feeding time, should these fish be together in the same tank?

I've heard of people having them in the same tank before, I would have thought they would live together.

You sure its a BN?
Maybe its developed a taste for the oscars slim coat?

Someone at work kept a BN and as Oscar together, both adult sized fish and the BN DID KILL THE OSCAR, or so I am told.

He now keeps just the oscars on their own in a Rio240. The BN also killed a clown loach which he couldnt get out prior to putting the BN in, I had all his others.

Just a question...

Are there enough hiding places in the tank, and, more importantly, are they competing for food? I.e. can you feed em seperately?

A lot of people point the finger at plecos when they find dead fish in their tank because many pleco's will more than happily scavenge on the corpses of dead fish, but they are actually rarely the cause of the death of the fish. Some pleco's will try to latch onto the bodies of large flat bodied fish to suck the fishes protective slime coat, but this is often rare behavior.

I dont have a clue tbh, ive just been told thats what he/she is

There is wood in the tank for the fish to hide under/in, (which were having staining problems with at the moment)

It's not really possible to feed them seperately, I think he has tried from what he's said, He usually feeds them when Ozzy (oscar) is at the top and the catfish is under the wood, so Ozzy gets a chance to eat before the catfish comes out for his tea

Here are the lil dudes...

sorry about the bad quality pics, will get some better ones next time im there

I had a bristlenose & an oscar together, adult male bristlenose, 5" oscar. I came home one day to half a bristlenose.

The oscar is now 10" or so, in with a 15" common plec. The oscar spits gravel at the plec, the plec takes a while to get upset. When he does the oscar gets a few scrapes, & I have to get out the mop. I though oscars were smart.

the first and second are different fish, the second is the catfish...

As i said, i know nothing about fish, i was just told thats what he was by the owners of the fish

So, anyideas why the cat keeps attacking Ozzy?
