Bristlenose Catfish Help

My 3cm long Bristlenose Catfish sometimes swims really quickly up to the surface, turns upside-down taps the surface with his mouth and then carries on as normal...WHAT ON EARTH?

hmm...I wonder if you've got enough oxygen in your water. Does you filter outlet agitate the surface of your water?

I turned it off about 5 sec before he started doing it. The gouramis in my tank are trying to breed so I need it to stay low.

EDIT: I think it's because I dislodged some algae so he was eating it off the surface.

My bristlenose's do this it is normal, its like what corys do.

When in doubt (especially with a river species) more air generally fixes it. In the future you should probubly not mix species that like little to no flow and low O2 with species that like high flow and high O2.
