Hi my bristlenose has had a real nasty burn i think it is anyway!!

But its on top of its head quite big and has a bit of flesh hanging off only a small bit

what is the best treatment for this and is there anything good to apply to the wound?

would betadine do any good?

Is it actually a burn or just excess mucous?
Fish produce excess mucous when they are stressed. For the fish to get a burn it would have to hang onto the aquarium heater while it was heating and then the burn would most likely be on the belly. The other thing that can burn fish is chemicals in the water. This normally causes the fish to develop black patching on their body, (mind you it's probably a bit hard to tell that on a bristlenose).

Check the water quality and maybe do a partial water change and gravel clean. This will reduce any water quality problems and lower the bacterial and fungal count in the water. If the fish is healthy then it should heal up by itself.
You can use betadine on the wound but the fish has to be out of the water for a minute while it dries. Clove Oil could be used to sedate the fish during this process. Melafix or Pimafix added directly to the tank might be a bit easier on the fish, or just leave it and monitor for any signs of secondary infection.

the couple of small bits coming out of back of head is bits of its flesh hanging off abit

Best way to treat this would be water changes every day to keep the water quality at perfect quality. Does more for healing than anything else in this type of situation. I wouldn't use any meds unless an infection sets in then use a round of antibiotics. Its also not really advised to keep him out of water for the time for betadine to dry as it can stress the fish more even when sedated.

ouch, nasty stuff.
If you want to treat the wound with betadine you put the fish into a small container of water and add one drop of clove oil at a time. Swirl the water around and wait a moment. Keep adding a drop or two before swirling and waiting. When there is enough clove oil in the container of water with the fish in, the fish should pass out. Then drain most of the water out and use an eye dropper to drop the betadine onto the area. However, I would give it a few days and see if the fish starts to heal up by itself. It will be a lot less stressful to the fish compared to catching it with that amount of damage.
