Could not believe it!

Cleaned out one of my external canister filters the other day and I had emptied out the media and all that was left on the canister was the water. Went and threw the water on the lawn and saw something black and wriggling (it was dark and way past midnight  ) I bent down and there was one of my bristle nose flopping around. I couldn't believe it.

The only way I can think of him being able to get in was through a skimmer which I had attached to the suction of the filter. If that was the case he would have been in the filter for just under 2 weeks. As i was at work and the Wife rang and told me that the skimmer was not working so I told her to leave it off until I got home. The BN getting in must have stuffed up the skimmer adjustments.

Any way skimmer is now removed  and the little BN is happy as a pig in Sh#t. I can't believe that it could survive in the bottom of the filter for 2 weeks.
WOW

Thanks for reading.

Wow he got lucky. My lfs told me he'd had a neon live in a juwel internal for two years, and it was fine.

My son lost his plec a year or so ago. Several weeks after it went missing, he took the tank down and found it in one of the compartments of his AquaClear filter. It had been in the filter for between 2 and 4 weeks. There was enough algae I guess for it to have food. I's been in my 75 gallon ever since.

Haha wo wthats one strong bristlenose. I completely freaked when i saw my bristlenose go into my filter output outlet lol. Just swam in then back out a minute or two later. She seems to do it for fun lol.

Glad you saved your BN :D

I guess I know how to breed bristle nose now  That is impressive. It really amazes me how hardy some fish can really be. Maybe I'll get lucky and find some fry in mine one day.

I had a male kribensis go missing, only after my guppy gave birth, i decided to check the internal Juwel filter, and there was a little face peering up at me, i had to dismantle the whole thing to get him out, it was like he didnt want to come out!!!! Well i suppose it suited him as hes cave dwelling!

Once I had a pike guppy. I also had a zebra danio in the same tank. But the guppy tried to eat. With no other safe places, the danio got into the filter. It lived in there for MONTHS, the the guppy died, and I put the danio back in.
