Hello,

I am doing a project to design some form of packaging to transport fish home. I am a tropical fish owner and find that plastic bags aren't very good in terms of keeping heat in etc.

I would like to know if anyone has experienced any problems when they have bought fish and brought them home. For example, you had to drive home and there was noone to hold the fish bag - then what do you do?

Thanks a lot, ;)

Jennifer

I guess possibly some sort of insulating casing around the plastic bag such as polystyrene might help retain the heat (and also allow you to stably place the package in the footwell or on the seat)

I guess keeping the fish in the dark might also lessen the stress of the journey...

when i get fish from the store, I bring a small cooler bag. Keeps the fish warm and in the dark. I also put the bag upside-down so the fish can't get caught in the corners.

My fish store is pretty good and will deliver if you know them.

I once went to the fish store on my own and bought some fish then realised its was gonna be a challenge to drive them home on my own. Bloody nightmare. stopped off 2 minutes into the journey to pick my girlfriend up to carry the fish haha

it would be great to have something to keep newly bought fish in rather than a bag

how bout a cool box, keep em warm and dark, also, as ur in the u.s, u can pick up nice small cook boxes made by coleman (they make lots of caravan/camping products)!!!! The one i have allows me to get 2/3 bags of fish on a trip to my lfs.
:fish:

I have an insulated bag that is normally used to hold 2 bottles of wine! But it's perfect for two bags of fish! Keeps them warm and stable and fits nicely in the passenger side seat of my car.

urm i get a poly box from the store room of if I'm not at work and getting fish I ask for a poly box. if you only have 1 bag bulk it out with air filled bags and other bits like more polysterene or newspaper.

If I plan on buying fish I bring a cooler. Once in a whille I find a deal when I don't have a cooler. I just put the bag under my shirt for the drive home. Body heat.

Hey,

thank you for all your responses. it has really helped me in my research. keep them coming!

thanks again

y dont u just get a medium size plant pot and then the bag will that the hpe of the pot and it will be stable. my lfs is a 5 minute drive.

I keep a softsided insulated cooler (the size that holds about a 6 pack of soda) in my truck all the time. I also keep some bubble wrap in it to fill up the excess space. 2 bags of fish fit nicely and if I only get one bag the bubble wrap fills up the extra space so the bag doesn't slide around. It keeps the temp stable and doesn't slide around.
