Brine Shrimp Food?

what should i feed my brine shrimp, i just bought some today and set up a hatchery , but i dint know what to feed them to keep them alive

I feed mine on baked egg yoke paste. Hard boil an egg, discard the white, mash up the yoke and mix in a little dry fish flake and a drip of water until you get a smooth heavy paste. lay it out thin on a baking tray and put it in a low heat in the oven for about 10-15 mins to dry it out. Let it cool and crush it to a powder. It will keep in an air type container for ages. Don't over feed them, or you will foul the water and they will die.

Also, brewers yeast, spirulina algae, or purchase Artemia food.

If your after feeding brine shrimp to your fish, it is advisable to do so within 24hours of the shrimp hatching, after this time there nutritional value drop dramaticly after 3 days there is almost none and you will need to gut load the shrimp before feeding to fish again if you want them to be of any nutritional value. If you have just 1 or 2 tanks you are better of starting a new batch of shrimp every 3-4 days then try to grow the shrimp out

How long does this last, I just made some today and I was wondering when it goes bad

How long does this last, I just made some today and I was wondering when it goes bad

Only really moisture can feed bacteria to turn food items bad, so the drier it is the longer it will last. If it is a nice dry powder, and you store it in an air tight container it will be fine for at least a month, by which time you will most likely be ready to make some more

I've never tried the egg yolk, but my brine shrimp love just plain old algae and yeast. I crush an algae tablet into a fine powder and add it to water cook it in the microwave for 30 seconds to soften it. i then pour it through one of my catch nets to sift out the chunks. You are then left with green water, which contains very small algae particles. Add a bit of yeast and stir it up until the yeast dissolves. Then pour some into your brine shrimp tank until the water is just a little cloudy. the mixture can be stored in the fridge for a week or so.

okay, sounds like a good idea i will make sure i try this, but i dont have any algae tablets and they are very expensive where i live, do do you know of any alternatives to this

I purchased knock off brand tablets at Walmart. You can also grow the algae in the window with a jar of distilled water.

They need a bit more than yeast in their diet and are natural algae feeders in the wild.
