Raising your own brine shrimp is a messy, smelly thing. A friend of mine who is a breeder tried it. Once. In the garage. Really unpleasant, stick with frozen, it's much easier, with the same results. If you find someplace that sells live, feed them within a week. King Coral, on the north side of Chicago may sell live brine shrimp.

will my rainbow sharks or swordtails or platy each the brine shrimp?

I recomend the Brine Shrimp Shrimpery by San Francisco Bay, i purchased it for only 8 dollars and u put a packet of eggs in and in about 18 hours they swim up into this container and u just feed them to your fry. You can collect the shrimp for up to like 24 hours after u first feed them about every 6 hours.

Actually now days you can get brine shrimp freezedried into little convinient cubes, which will save you the hassle of having to raise your own and having to use it all within a certain period of time etc :) .
