you need to do lots of research before breeding these fish, its not just a matter of chucking them together and hoping for the best. Research is key with bettas as is planning, you will need to seperate all the males, find homes for 100 odd fry (sometimes more/less)
You can't keep a male and female together either. Unless they've been conditioned and prepared for breeding otherwise one will kill the other one. It's your decision at the end of the day but people have come on here asking the same and kept them together and then the post we get is "I wish I'd listened".
Males and Females CAN be kept together in a HUGE tank with lots of cover but for the size of the tank vs the fish size then it's not worth it.
How big is your tank and are they together or did I rudely assume that?
I have a male living in with lots of females, but they are in a very densely planted 260litre tank. There are several very knowledgeable breeders on here who can give you all the advice you need.
Both male and female need to be conditioned prior to breeding. You cannot necessarily assume that any pair will breed either. They're not at all like mollys/platys etc, etc!!!
That’s exactly what I wanted to know, much appreciated
Yes, I will keep an eye. I would be most happy if they didn’t breed to be honest but will be back on here if they do. They are beautiful fish and a great addition to my tank.
