Breeding.

Hi i am interested in trying to breed some fish, I have an empt tank its 2ft by 1ft, got everything for it heater filter air pump ect, now what else do i need in it? Also what fish would be an ideal fish to start with and how would i go about it? I currently have neons, zebra danios, peppered corys, Mixed Guppies, and 2 angel fish, I dont even know the sexes of the fish

easiest is livebearers guppy's etc and is that tank properly cycled if so how?

what are your water parameters?

what is the KH, GH and PH of your water?

if you have soft water with a lower PH the neons will breed readily, but raising fry is hard, guppies are less likely to breed in softer water. if you have harder water guppies would be a better choice

go with guppies if your a first timer

A guide to breeding guppies.

Have a cycled tank.
Add a few male guppies (3-4) and at least 3 females for each male
Leave in tank for a month whilst feeding high quality foods
You will then start getting fry at any time


Looking after fry.

I always leave my fry in the tank so that natural selection will ensure the fittest survive.
however if you are interested in saving many then you may be interested in a breeding trap.

Livebearers are definately the easiest to breed.

The steps needed are usually.

1)have a cycled tank
2)add fish
3)wonder what you're going to do with the seemingly endless stream of offspring!

Or you can go with convict cichlids. They lay eggs, take care of the eggs, and the fry. They are beautiful fish aswell.
