land of the scots!
I have read various websites, that when breeding bettas, you shouldn't breed VTs :( Nobody wants them.

Why is this, are they seen as the typical Betta in a Vase? I personally think they are fab, Lunar is a VT, he was my first betta! :)

VT's are now seen as "common" and people want HM or CT instead - preferably both.
I like VT's, I think they're very pretty.

I love Vts especially the different coloured ones

Here is where I gathered about VTs being dominant and colours and such to, i dont know if its true though!

my first male betta was a VT he was a lovely red double tail, then there was starburst a bright orange, oh and the there was the short lived Cpt parrot

eeee Id like one now =D

There's just no demand for them. Not since CTs and HMs hit the market :( They're still beautiful fish IMO... I find that CTs look rather jarring... not the sort of fish I want to watch before I fall asleep!

i like VTs i like FTs and RTs more but VTs are still nice. my lfs are getting in some tri colour VTs on monday and i think im going to get one of them.

oh i know what you mean about the CTS! It didnt help that Jazz was one mean fishie to!! until he became an accidental dad then he calmed down hehe

I had no idea that VTs aren't popular. One of mine is and he's gorgeous. Maybe he's considered "common" as he's blue, but I totally love him!

I'm not a snobby betta owner though (lol) and will adopt by looks alone, not by popularity. My other male is a double tail and I bought him because he is pretty too and loves to pose. He was 4X as much as the VT!

Not sure what my female is. . .

Most of my Bettas I've kept since I was young were VT's, and my previous Betta before Hector was a beautiful VT too. They are awesome.

I think cts look the most like dragons, maybe that's why I like them. I really would love a plakat though...

Hi betta_246 :)

There's nothing wrong with breeding VTs if you know in advance that you will have somewhere to sell them once they have grown large enough. If you are successful at raising the fry, you will end up with a number of fish that can't be kept together in the same tank. If you can't sell them locally, you will have to either cull them or keep them. They are very popular fish but the lfs can get them at wholesale prices. If you can find someone who will agree to buy them, go ahead and breed them.

This is nothing against VTs, but is a problem faced by everyone who breeds fish. It's just a matter of being a responsible breeder to be sure your grown fry will be able to find homes.

Perhaps you can convince a lfs that locally raised fish will be healthier and more attractive than ones that have been shipped in. This is true and the fish you can provide them with will adjust to their new owner's water more easily as well. :D

Thanks for everyones replies! :D

@MewMew42- i used that site aswell! lol its really interesting, but they could have expanded on the tail types. :)
@Inchworm, thanks, i have contacted the LFS and they have said 'contact nearer the time, when you know how much fry you have' ?!?!?!

Lunar is the only VT i have, breeding him is out of the question as he is approx 1 1/2years old, bless, quite a character though! :) I wouldn't want to put him through the stress.

So i have the other three fishies to focus on, now to choose which one will be difficult! :S :D

Just bear in mind the age of the bettas you breed... I understand they pass their 'prime' quite quickly, and produce more deformed fry as they get older.
