Hi all,

just wondered if anyone had any tips on getting uaru to breed succesfully?

i have bought a couple of fish around the 5 inch mark (they were looking a bit tatty in the LFS and felt a bit sorry for them so bought them)
they've recovered from their ordeal at the LFS well.
Now i know that it'll be a miracle if they are a male and a female, but i'm hoping they are. they are certainly inseparable from one another.

I have now moved them into a tank on their own in the garage.
its roughly a 4'x1.5'x1.5'.

Lighting is from a single t8 tube, and filtration from a fluval 205.

There is a light substrate of sand and small gravel, 3 very large pebbles, and a big lump of bogwood.

temp is set around 27 or so.

they're currently being fed tetramin? (little red pellet things) cucumber every day, and frozen bloodworm every three days or so.

i plan to try and get some duckweed or something for them to browse on, and also darken up the tank a bit.

Is there anything else anyone can suggest that would improve my chances of succesfully breeding these great fish?

cheers for the link, it seems i'm going along the right track then.

I've ordered some egg crate in which i intend to create some 'cages' to put over the rocks which i hope the uaru will spawn on, so as to protect them from being eaten over the first few days.

one of the uaru has started to nuzzle the other in the belly every so often. is this aggression or courtship?
