That's awesome Cracker.. I may have to try your method some time.. :D
I think we need pictures of your pond.. :D
well i kind of use a similar way of breeding i place two tanks next to each other one with a male and another with a female (the male will see the male). feed them both frozen bloodworm for 3 days then placed the female in the males tank .the male will chase her but not damage any fins! he will then build a nest if he already has not !!!!!!!!!!

by the way does the male in ur method actually build a nest?

I've been using this method for so long now and i found that the benefits are

easier to change water

can breed even the trickiest of males/females

less space required

less money required

and this generally keeps the parents happy even if your school report is bad  (shame mine arernt like that lol)

yes the male build a nest.

Great idea! How do you keep it heated? Do you use the tupperware lid or something else to cover it? I think I'm going to give this a try! :D

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I also put a cover on the tub and in my country I don't need heaters.
my male ripped my females scales of when i put them in an enclosed tank

That's normal with some pairs and you don't need to worry. You can always cure the wounds of the female.

do you leave the female in the whole time of remove her as soon as eggs are laid? i thought leaving them together is asking for the male to kill her!

mine don't seem to be doing anything,Abit of chasing a big bubblenest but no action,The females barred up and flares at the male half the time but still nothing is happening! im using a little 3-4g tank,Seems to do the job imo.

I'll put a cover on the tub and put the tub in a dark quiet place and leave them for 2- 3 days. The next thing I know is they already have eggs.
Do you check on them at all or do you leave them alone until you think there are eggs?

I only check them after 3 days or you may check them everyday because sometimes after few hours they already have eggs.
