Hey,

I am looking into getting a breeding tank and i just have a few questions before taking the plunge that i hope some of you can answer :)

- I only intend to breed Guppies, Mollies & Platies at the moment, is a 65 Litre/14 Gallon tank a good size? Also what other types of community fish could i breed in a tank this size?

- If i want to breed a certain type of fish, for example Platies. Do i put the male and female in the breeding tank until the fry are born and then move the adults back into my main tank, or do i have the fry born in the main tank and move them into the breeding tank?

- When i set up my breeding tank i will be filling half of it with water from my main tank (and the other half with fresh water) and also adding a filter cartridge used in my main tank into the filter in my breeding tank, is this correct?

Any other tips you guys can give about this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Really sorry for the bump, but just hoping someone can help me out with this? :)

Thanks again.

Quick question what do you intend to do with fry onece they have grown? the fish are pretty much worthless in resale value and they cant live in tank that size, just a though :good:

I plan on giving them away to friends or LSF. Thankfully i have alot around my area that are happy to take any fish off my hands :)

I am interested in trying to breed other fish in the long run of things, that's why i was hoping for suggestions about that too. But mostly to start off it will be the big 3 livebearers.

Ah thats good that you have thought that far ahead. One of my breeding mistake was buying a too small tank to start with, if you can i would go with something 100L + with a bubble sponge filter :good:
