Breeding Tank

I have set my new breeding tank with a sponge filter to prevent fry from being sucked up into the filter... however i know that the sponge filter is only biological and mechanical... but what so i need to do to filter my water chemically?? i assume carbon, but where wud i need to place this in the tank? thanks

What are you breeding? with fry its hard work and lots of waterchanges are the best option.

oooh, im only breeding the simples, such as zebra danios and guppies (as i already have a couple of pregnant ones). I know it's not recommended by many, but is there anyway to speed up the processes with a sponge filter to allow me to put fish in earlier?? thanks

The only way to mature your sponge quicker is to put it in an already mature filter for a few days, do you have an external or internal it would fit into? Guppies you dont really need a seperate tank you can use a breeding trap depending of course on which other fish are in with the guppies when you release the fry.

You don't need chemical filtration. It's only used really to remove tannins from bogwood or similar, and medication. It won't do biological though if it hasn't been cycled. Is it new sponge?
