I bred fighters a few months back. :p

I have a few questions for successful fighter breeders but first of all spawning isnt the problem thats the easy part... my problem is that whenever i have had fry they just vanish and die... is there any reason for this? I did everything "breeding bettas" articles and sites told me, fed them the appropiate foods but they just die off.

Its possible that because when the babies are born i switch off the filter thinking they would get sucked up.

the fry were born in a 4gallon tank (now all dead obviously)... :(

any advice on breeding them (i have two females aching for it) :kana: but i have no male because he died a few months back. :/ I should go buy a male eventually... so any information would be helpful... ;)

the parents were obviously taken out i took the female after the eggs hatched and i left the male in there until they were free swimming (horizontally) ???

should have i kept the filter going?

Yup, that's probably your biggest problem...the filter. Put a sponge over the intake to prevent losing any babies. They don't develop their labyrinth organs for a few weeks so they don't use surface air the way grown bettas do

EDIT~ you're using a 4 gallon to breed in  ,next time try and upgrade to a 10,maybe you'll have better results

maybe thats the reason they all died. I have an aquaclear Mini so do you suggest shoving a bit of sponge up the intake pipe? for next time...

cut a hole in the center of a square piece of sponge and slip it OVER the intake. OR wrap a piece around the intake and secure it with a rubber band. It serves a multipurpose of keeping your babes safe AND they'll pick the food that gets stuck to it off the sponge

I just thought of something (only because I'm moving my breeders to the breeding tnk today)
Did you cycle the tank first? Maybe you had an ammonia spike in addition to the "no filter" situation :/
