I was wondering if anyone on here has any information about puffer breeding. I never attempted it before, I have a GSP and as far as I know they won't breed in captivity. However I've never really looked into it so if anyone has any info on this topic please share. thanks.

I'm mostly just curious.

that still doesn't mean that we have any input. :dunno: there's only so many GSP keepers around here and like you said already, there haven't been many/any reports of breeding them in captivity.

just chill for a bit. i'm sure nmonks will weigh in at some point; if anyone can give advice, it'll be him.

Since you have posted in the oddballs and brackish sections and have yet to get a reply, have you tried google?

from what i have been told is that it is possible, but your talking a few years probably. when young you need a group of them 6+ or so....as they begin to grow and mature they will begin becoming territorial and eventually a male and female will pair off (maybe more than just one pair). From there you need to find the ones that paired the best and remove the rest into a different tank. They may breed they may not. Male will guard the eggs and babies and will appearantly fight to the death if anything gets near them. Keep in mind i have never done this but have just read and heard this from places. If im wrong in any area of this im sure NMonks will clear it up hehe.

yeah I tried google. I also tried yahoo and ask jeeves, and just about everyother place except here. The thing is, most other places strike me as not so trustworthy, also I value the oppinions that are given here above what I can find on some random website. don't get so upset about the post I'm just anxious to hear if anyone has any insight. also if you don't know, you could just say that, then I'd at least know that there's not much out there. As far as I knew, noone had cared to comment.

just buy a bunch of them and stick them in your tank, there's bound to be a few that will pair off!

that's what I'd do

I really wouldnt reccomend just throwing a bunch of GSP's in a single tank in hopes of them pairing off. GSP's need a minimum of 40 gallons per specimen.
