What is the best temp. to keep my tank at if I want my platys to mate? Also what kind of live food should I feed them? Thanks. :)

I normally keep my tank temp at 78F, but if you want to make the female's gestation period go quicker, you can turn the temp up a little. (About 80-82F)
They will mate at almost any temp, as long as it is not so cold or hot that it is stressful to them.

If you want to create certain colored fish, (like babies) you can put a female in a separate 10 or so gallon tank, then add a male of your choice. Take the male out after a couple minutes to hours. Leave the female in there for her whole gestation period, let her drop in the tank, and then take her out.

I used to feed my fish bloodworms before I developed an allergy. They were frozen though. Just be careful with live foods: Some carry disease that can give fish internal parasites.

Good luck! :good:

I like to keep my platies at 76F. It is warm enough to have a nice short pregnancy for the fry but is cool enough to avoid a very short life span.

Just one little thing, when you said move the female in a separate tank and choose a male of your choice to put in there, not all the fry will turn out with the characteristics of those parents as female guppys can carry sperm from previous mating with other males, this means mixed broads of fry. Some will have the characteristics of the previous males.

Yes, I know, but I normally have success keeping creating certain colours when I do stuff like that.
