Hello
I brought 2 kribs a while ago and i think they are breeding do they usally get agressive when they breed? If so should they be in a tank of there own? What size tank should that be? I have a spare 1ft tank a spare 2ft tank and i can get my hands on a 3ft tank if needed? All responses appreciated :D .
Cheers :good:

Kribensis are very beatiful fish and they are also african cichlids if you did not know so they do have some aggression, not much, but some. The females are usually smaller with a deepbodied stomach of a rich purple or red and they have rounded finns and thier doesal fin is a rich gold color. The males have a longer dorsal finn tip and they have a more streamlined body and when excited or breeding have a small to medium rad splotch on their stomach. When they are breeding the kribs will be the most beutiful fish you have ever seen and thier will be a breeding tube stiking out of the female and male( Long white tube that protrudes from the anal region. The female will be hiding most of the time fanning the eggs so you will not see them much. Eventually they will come out one day will alot of fry ( Babies) and they will tend to them until they breed again. Could you give me the amount of gallons of the tanks, dont understand the 1 ft, 2 ft, 3 ft thing sorry.

Hello
Thanks for reply. I have a spare 3.5g, 12.5g, 25g tanks which tank would be best for 2 kribs breeding? What fish are good with breeding or non-breeding kribs :D .
Cheers :good: .

I would go with the 25. They are good comminity fish so mollies, swords, Platies, etc....... would work but if you are looking for other cichlids you could do any other type of dwarf cichlid and you could try keyholes but they get pretty big, oh and one other is any type of angelfish. Hope this helps.

You need to have target fish in with Kribs, its good for their mental well being of having to defend their brood.

True, kribs do better with dither fish. I would suggest long finned danios because they look larger than they are so the kribs think of them as a threat. And they are very fast and are hardi to attack.

I wouldnt suggest tetras because if they get injured they can easily get infections because of their genetic makeup. Just like mice they are hard to get infections but once they get them they have a terrible time getting rid of what ever they have.

Ive chose to re-house my female and her offspring as they would naturally defend their fry to the death if need be, and as for target fish it makes no odds, I have tetra's, danio's etc in my community tank but if a cory or anything else wanders into their domain then the kribs can be pretty relentless in their attack. I had to move mine as it knocked the balance of the tank right off the scale.

The male krib progressed to attacking tank mates that were on the opposite side of the aquarium whilst the female was out tending to her free swimming fry, and a couple attacks on corrys can proove fatal due to the stress so i had to take the chance and re-locate them to their own 130L tank (since ive placed the male back in the community tank as he was going to meet certain death as the famale rejected him). With no fry to protect and no female to show off to, he is one of the most peacefull fish in my tank that now plays in the flow from an air curtain with the corry's.

My First egg laying fish i bred was the kribensis although looking back convicts are better because they more or less look after there fry.

I hope your kribs behave theirself! Happy New Year! Watch out, sometimes the mothers can be too protective and beat up the dads.
