Hi....after several successful siamese fighting fish spawns where i've raised the offspring to adulthood, i'd now like a try at breeding honey gouramies.

I have an assortment of tanks for conditioning, breeding, and rearing and a large tank for growing on the young.

I've done a bit of reading up but couldn't find how to condition and then introduce the fish. Is it similar to the fighters ?...do you put the male in the tank and the female in a jar so he can see but not touch ?....should i expect a certain amount of aggresion.

If i get them to spawn, i will remove the male after the fry are free swimming and feed microworms and newly hatched brine.

Any help, pointers or general advice would be most welcome

Andy

as far as i can find, lowering the water level and raising the temperature will trigger them to spawn.

no need to keep the female in a jar... they will live happily together.

female should be removed right after spawning, and the male when the fry are free-swimming.

"The water level in the breeding tank should be low - six inches is plenty. Lighting should be subdued, and the water temperature should be slowly increased for several days prior to spawning until it reaches the mid 80's. Water movement should be kept minimal so the bubblenest is not disturbed."

I'd condition them the same as bettas :D

Thanks Esfa. I plan to keep about 5 pairs in a 15 gallon tank and then remove a pair to a breeding tank once i've watched them for a while.
