Hello everyone,

I have a huge interest in breeding fish, and i have just recently been wanting to take more of a "challenge" in breeding. I have heard that cardinal tetras are harder to breed, so i think they would be the perfect choice, since they are one of my favorite aquarium fish.

If any of you can give me a very detailed step-by-step description on how to breed them (tank setup, how to go about doing this, what i need to know how to do, etc.) ...that would be awesome!

If not, then a website is also good... but i would much rather hear your personal experiences and tips. The reason why im asking so much about this is because i really want to research this thoroughly before making any attempts lol!

i read somewhere u can not breed cardinal, all the cardinal in the shop are wild caught. there might be one or two breeding successful example, but very rare.

however, u can breed neon tetra, much easier.

Cardinals will spawn in an aquarium, given the right conditions. I have got a really good link but I cant paste it here because of the forum rules... pm sent to fish hobbyist.

ok thank you everybody, but i still have one question...

when i put the fish together in the spawning tank, should i put multiple males, multiple females, multiple of both genders, or just one of each gender?

im sorry eskcarr, i dont understand your last post... all it says is "23jdh"... maybe it is something i dont know?

See if you can get them to breed in a dedicated cardinal tank first with say 20 individuals in there only. If they breed in there then you can experiment with putting male and female in spawning tank, it may be easier to just harvest the eggs after spawning.

They need the right water to spawn in and you will probably need RO water.
