Hi all

so I got a breeding box to lady for my little mumma to be and wondering when I can put her in? The boys are absolutely going crazy and annoying her. My little Rosies on the other hand think it’s a play house and keep swimming in and out of it ( I have the lid off with it in the tank until I get her in)

Back when I bread mollies I may have a female in there for a week before the babies would come. It was a guessing game. I was looking at the new breeding boxes on Amazon last night-nice.

To be honest, it is better to leave the mother in the main tank. Being confined in those small boxes stresses them, and moving a heavily pregnant fish can damage bother the mother and the unborn fry. As long as there are plenty of hiding places - eg plants, real or fake - some fry will survive.

I one I had was set up for two fish but I opened it up and only had one in at a time but times were different back in those days.

Thanks guys. The one I got is only a little one. I did try her in it and she went crazy so I released her back in the tank. I just really fill for her as the main little guy that I have spoken about on her is really harassing her and she is getting annoyed at him. I know the girls have giving birth before and I have not seen anything from the batches ( which is not a bad thing as I don’t want to over populate my tank) but would little to save a few and experience that side of it. I suppose if it’s meant to be it will be. I haven’t giving my Vall a haircut in about a month and a half so it’s really thriving beautiful thick and luscious leaves so I’ll leave that and see how I go.
I tell you, these swordtail males are such randy and naughty little guys

Fishy time out you think. I did do that before I put the shrimp in their tank and was stressing out

I did it to my mystery snails after all the damage they did to my plants. They are now unhappily trying to eat plastic in my Bother-in-laws tank.:yahoo:

Floating plants, guppy grass, java moss, etc. and other nooks 'n crannies are a better way for fry to hide and not get eaten. Or if one was really into breeding, move the mother to a rearing tank and move her back once she's dropped fry.
