Any suggestions on a species of small africans i can keep in a 12 gal tank, just one species of fish in the tank, and breed and raise some fry in? I like the look and gracefullness of yellow labs, but keep reading a 29 gal is a minimum for them. thanks. [non-african dwarf rams might be a smarter choice]

What are the dimensions of the tank? If it's relatively long you may be able to try a pair of kribs. I have a breeding pair in a 15g and I haven't had any problems. Or, you could try shelldwellers like neolamprologus maltifasciatus. These don't get bigger than a few inches and are very interesting.

Shelldwellers are the only African you can do in this tank. Look them up in google, there's lots of basic info on them.
