I used to have my CRS in my large female/fry tank... then came upon a lot of problems in there and moved them into my male tank. I intended to move them back to my female/fry tank once the issues had passed... but they seem really happy in the male tank. ANYHOW... I'd really like them to start breeding (there are about 20 of them in there at last count).

I am aware that my guppies might very well eat baby shrimp... but, I'm not sure they are breeding anyway. (I've had them for about 1 1/2 months I think). I'd really like to breed them so I can spread them out into all of my tanks in time.

Any tips? I'm hoping I can avoid sticking them in a tank of their own, I'd really like to keep them with the fish.

Tiny shrimplets will be eaten by fish, there are no two ways about it.

Some may be lucky enough to escape for long enough to become too big to be eaten, but if you want to breed them properly, you'll have to set up a shrimp tank.

Just one thing, use the acronym RCS, red cherry shrimps. CRS usually refers to crystal red shrimps and it may lead to confusion.

I can never remember which way around it goes CRS or RCS. Will try and remember!

If I did move them to my smaller tank (or some at least), wouldn't there be too few to keep the tank cycled on their own?

They will keep it cycled for the waste they produce, and once they start breeding the bacteria will be more than capable to keep up.

Excellent! I think I will set up for them today. My little tank just needs a cleaning and I have a filter already cycled in my big tank for when I need it. I just need an ornament for them to hide in as I have everything else.

A couple of moss balls and a piece of wood with aquatic moss growing on it is all the ornament they will need.

Oh! I have a moss ball and I can rig up wood with java moss. I've not used the wood before but have had it in the cupboard (came with one of my set ups but I didn't want to use it)... I imagine it needs to soak first.

Not necessarily, but it isn't a bad idea to soak it.
