I have this pair they have spawned 4 times in my 55 gal tank. everytime there is drama Right now they are fighting Lip locked and going at it. They are entertaining my daughter. They do this before they spawn after fighting for a few days they make up and lay eggs. After the eggs hatch they are fighting over the eggs and then it's just more drama. So I am breaking them up. I can't keep them both only one. So what one would you keep.

I blame the female she is big really round very dark almost black when in the mood. She is a beast of a mother. The male is much more laid back so she normally wins the fight. He is also smaller then her. They started out the same size but the female has grown faster she is not much longer but is hefty. I think I would rather keep the male it might be weird to say but I think he is a sweet fish.

I want to replace one of the acaras with a EBJD. What one of the acaras would you keep. The pushy large female or the more laid back slimmer male?

Just make sure any replacement is the same sex. Otherwise, they will start to breed. I would suggest keeping the female. Two males however, will most likely not coesist in that small of a tank. EBJD's tend to be weak fish.

i believe he wants to get rid of 1 acara, and not buy another, just an ebjd. Well it sounds like you like the male more, so why not keep him? I don't think it's weird at all haha. Plus the less aggressive the better for your ebjd.

I think my EBJD is a male. He has long pointed fins already . He is only 1.5". I'm going to grow him out a bit in a 10 Gal tank for a month or 2. The 10 Gal tank will be easy for me to do small daily water changes to help this little guy grow healthy and strong. I'm really excited about this guy. I will post a photo of him once he settles in.

Would it be a bad Idea to keep 2 males? Or should I keep the female acara. Or because they are different kinds of fish their will not be a problem?

PS
I'm a girl.

Well if you keep the female it could pair up with the JD, then it would do its over protective thing and beat it up.

I was thinking that too, I don't think it would happy but you never know. Cichlids are just crazy fish. I think what I will do is take the female out see how the 2 males get along. If all goes well I will rehome the female. But if the males don't get along I will try the female with the male.

Hehe this reminds me of my old blue acaras, they were exactly the same as yours, they had a real love-hate relationship
So many fry as well it was amazing to see, must of been 150 fry at least every time they spawned. love seeing them all in a big ball being herded by mum. I miss there crazyness

That top photo is yours??

I have see that one floating around the internet when I google them. It's an awesome photo you should have put your mark on it some how or a signature.

Yes these fish are crazy. Glade I'm not the only one with crazy BA.

Well my Acaras have spawned for the last time. I took the female out. Saved 10 little fry. I have added the EBJD to my Male BC. They are working things out but are getting along much better then my pair did. I am happy I split them up.
