I persuaded the bursar at the school wher I work to buy a brand new filter for the tropical tank at school. The one in there is a pig to clean as someone has broken the plastic . We now have a new one but I dont want to kill the fish off my just sticking the new filter in with no bacteria build up or anything. suggestions please..as long as it is not time consuming and doesnt invole emptying the tank? Thanks! :good:

:hyper: brain wave...I will have a look tomorrow to see if there is access should be ok...but then how long do I run the new filter for before taking the other out?

If you can, take the media from the old filter & put it in the new filter. This won't affect the bacteria at all. If you want to run the new one along with the old, leave them together for at least 2 weeks, 4 weeks is better. This will leave you with an extra filter running that you can use on a quar/med tank, if needed.
