Brain Coral...

hey i got a new large piece of LR today! the guy from the store told me there was something on the rock that looked like brain coral.. he said that it might not be living?? so i'am just wondering if it's brain coral (i think it is!!) and also how do i tell if it's living or if it's dead?

Well it was a variety of a favites brain coral, but now its just a dead skeleton. Brain corals will have some color inside those little hole looking structures and flesh covering the top. What you're seeing is the white calcium carbonate skeleton that the coral grows.
