Hi, im looking at suprising my girlfriend a young boxfish for our tank (you know the yellow ones with black spots). I cant keep her away from the tank in the LFS with the boxfish in, "but they're sooo cute" she says and i agree such a sweet looking big eyed cute fish she would be soo happy if i turned up home with one :p ive researched them a bit an im aware of the poisonous toxin they release if they die, only thing is i know theyre not the strongest of swimmers..

I have 2 powerheads (1x koralia 4 and 1x koralia 2) and my tanks 180 litres, just worried if he swims close he's going to get sucked in to the powerheads..? This recently happened to my gorgeous juvenile sailfin tang an i was absolutly gutted to see him stuck to the powerhead when i returned from work.
Desperatly dont want this to happen again what would you guys recommend? i ditch the koralia 4 and get another koralia 2? or what ive got could be ok?

I have to agree with you, they are lovely

Start running activated carbon and if you unfortunatly lose him, do a large water change and you should be fine

You are right

To be honest this could happen anyway, even if you get 2 x k2 - but I would replace the k4 - however what are your plans for the tank? that will really help us decide which powerhead to recommend (corals, soft, hard, what sort)

That's unusual and very unlucky, sorry to hear that

Let us know about the corals

Its really rare that healthy fish of a decent size is unable to swim away from the current.
Could it be possible that your fish was feeling off colour and a little weak when he got sucked in?
We see it occasionally at work, but its never a healthy fish.
Power heads and intake pipes and such are designed with fish (with the exception of fry) in mind.
I think your box fish would be fine, and if your really in doubt, just put a stocking or something over it for the first week until he gets his bearings in the tank and knows to stay away.
