I live in brisbane and finding it hard to find bottled ammonia anywhere????? Is there any product out there that is worldwide, and what am i looking for is there any brand names to stay away from?? I would prefer to find some so i dont have to do a fish-in cycle. Do they sell bottled ammonia at pet store, supermarket? Why would any one need it? What is it used for in the everyday house hold???

Thank guys( iwould prefer to buy it here so i didnt have to setup account and buy overseas)

It's used as a household cleaner, so you'll probably want to try some homeware/DIY type stores. In the UK some chemists/pharmacies stock it, so you could try there as well.

You need to look at the bottle and avoid anything that has surfectants or perfumes added. Usually the cheapest ones are the best, in this case.

Hopefully someone else from down under will be along to help you later!

Dont know if its safe but on this other forum other members use it its called ""cloudy ammonia"" heres a link to another member on a different forum asking the same question: http://ausaqua.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=9943&unlockUserAgent=1 do u think its safe??

Im still looking but i will actually go down the road tomorrow.

Hmm, you'll have to look on the bottle, mate; sorry!

Could i use this: http://www.petbarn.com.au/fish/aquarium-health-wellbeing/medications-treatments-supplements/seachem-stability-1.html or something simalir or are these products crap

Most people have found that they don't work, and you'd still need ammonia to 'prove' the tank was cycled before you added any fish.

I have always found in that here the UK that you need to try the smallest local type place rather than a chain/supermarket so maybe give that a try. Go look in the back at the dusty old cleaning products. Check it is solution only without perfumes etc and give it a shake to be sure; should not foam up at all.

Also you could maybe ask a pensioner if you know any cos they seem to be the sort to use it for cleaning, it's pretty old school. And talking of schools they might have some in their labs.......

If it burns, doesn't bubble and stays clear it should be good, the only problem now is finding out how much ammonia is really in the bottle so you know how many ml to put into your tank
