I am a real lover of bright colours, so you can imagine the sorts of fishes I'm instantly drawn to!
I look at photos of some and think 'how boring!'
But, lots of people keep these fish so there must be something about them.
One example is panda cories-I saw a pic, thought, not much to look at. Then I saw a shoal of about 15 in a huge display tank at a LFS and they were great. En masse, they looked like a dolphin swimming about!
So, 'sell' me your boring-looking-but-interesting-in-other-ways fish :)

Black Skirt Tetra:

Cheeky little chappies who sqabble amongst themselves. After a coming together they sqare off, like the crabs in Finding Nemo "A!" ... "A!" ... "A!" ... "A!"

Also, fully grown they're about the same size as juvenile Silver Dollars. I like Silver Dollars when they're small, but they get too big for me. So Black Skirts are a nifty alternative!

Weatherloaches ( the first pic in my signature ) . The golden variety are prettier to look at of course, but they are all so so friendly, like a pack of puppies ( they need to be in groups ) Mine come and wind through my fingers begging for food when I have my hand in the tank, and they fart bubbles !

 i have a weather loach too .. what an ugly fish, but you should see him fly into action when he food hits the floor- he has massive character

( he is alone as he came with a tank i bought and i kinda felt sorry for him, so when i rehomed all the other fish, i "forgot" to take him :D )

Aw get him some friends Shelagh! They love to make a loach pile!

 @ the bubble farts! They sound like great little fish :)
The black skirts are quite pretty, especially the long finned variety. Sound like an ideal alternative to silver dollars in a small tank.

I think danios are underrated and are very entertaining to watch. VERY hyper little things that will take advantage of every level of the aquarium.
