Bored Of My Fish

I love my tank, as its my first tank that i've set up. I have been thinking and planning another tank down the road in about 4 or 5 months... im thinking of starting a small nano SW which would be pretty hard but a challenge

.... then what happens when you're new tank / layout/fish are happy and doing well? You just get bored of them as well, and make the whole problem worse?
You're committed to looking after a live animal, and the novelty of something new will wear off in time. IMO you have to be doing it for something more than the novelty.

When I feel that way about my fish I try to find something new to do for them, maybe a new food or some other way of cossetting them. Otherwise I'd be buying new tanks every time I got bored, can't see my family putting up with that. I always enjoy watching them try out a new food.

Other than that, I feel it's the same as with other pets, children, husbands- getting new ones is not a recipe against boredom as the next lot will soon be as boring as the old; more interesting to try to get to know the ones you have better.

Oh, all right, just sour grapes, truth is I would LOVE a bigger tank with some new fish....

I think of fishkeeping as another art form, and an artists work is never done...

For example, if you get bored of the tank layout then change the layout? Buy new plants and aquascape a little. I like to be adventurous and try new things, change the substrate maybe? (i've recently changed to sand) or add new accessories like an air pump or air stones.. slate? rock? bogwood?

Theres tonnes of things you can try, and thats why fishkeeping is so interesting. Goodluck with whatever you choose to do. Getting a new tank is the easy answer for most, but isnt always practical? so why not stick to what you have and just adapt it a little? even if that means adding or removing fish?

IMO you have to be doing it for something more than the novelty.
Well, we all are.
Is there anything wrong with wanting a new scene? I know how he/she feels.
Thats why I'm where I am today....I started small....then kept' growin!

There is nothing wrong with getting alittle wery of your current fish/set-up, and I think the Nano idea'll be good if you have the time.
Its alot of patient sitting back stuff in the beggining, but I think it'll get alot more adventuorus...

I agree - there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to re-aquascape, not at all. BUT, I don't like with the idea that people get bored with their current fish/ setup and so just go buy another. You would never accept someone saying "I'm bored of my dog, what can I do?"
Not a great comparison maybe, but I just feel really uncomfortable that when someone posts a short "am bored with my tank" the advice coming back comes across as being "get a second one then". The novelty of that one will also wear off with time.
I always assume people get a second /third /whatever tank becuase they are really enthusiastic about their fish, not becuase they are bored with their current set up.
