i got my tank all looking good and it was what i wanted loads of plants that are all doing well but now im bored of it and losing intrest has any one else got bored when its all looking good and running smooth and what did you do to get re interested?

Well once it runs for a long time I might get a little bored. My tanks have always been low maintenance, so in time I just want to get a new fish, but I’m way better at keeping them alive now so if I go out and get a new fish each 6 months or so I will need a new tank. That’s one thing I think I will not mind a bout a salt water because there is always maintenance to be done so you don’t have to rely on adding more fish, and I’m not big on changing around the stuff in the tank all the time because I know I would hate it if some one always rearranged my world on me.

So I guess you can
1. get more fish or plants
2. Rearrange things
3. Get a new tank to play with
4. Start a SW

Even if you don’t want all the maintenance of a SW it seems like some live rock, inverts and maybe some low maintenance coral or fish would be fine. I talked with a guy who only had live rock for many years….he said “no mater what a person CANT keep anything else its just too hard”

Good luck

i was thinking of setting up a SW tank with just some live rock and corals but ive never been there b4 so i thought maybe next step is brackish i have loads of tanks its just their not full of fish so getting another tank running isnt a problem

dnt think it would work barry dnt they need to be in shoals :D

I find that if I'm losing interest in my fish a quick trip to my favorite LFS regains my interest. Even if I'm not in the market for something new, just looking at the variety of fish and chatting with the staff helps.

Oh what about changing to some African cichlids or breeding specific setup etc. - something to get your teeth into type thing :)

yes i agree, breeding a particular fish could build your interest, as i find it is very exciting to monitor how theyre doing then to watch the babys grow! i would go for this approach, plus you have enough tanks for this already

Buy some new ornaments for the tank or a new test kit. Something that will give a little something to do!

By the way - are you person selling java moss on eBay for 1 pound?? If so, hi! I brought some today!

Hi cla55y19 :)

If you're getting bored, by all means, start another tank. A lot of people find salt water fish a welcome challenge.

Or stock a kind of fish that has many variations. For example, I collect corydoras catfish. There are almost 300 identified species, and some are quite hard, or almost impossible to find. When the amount of work and sheer drudgery that caring for more than 20 tanks gets too much, the excitement of the hunt for a new species always perks me up. :D

Agree with that, pick maybe a small species you enjoy but aren't overly common, find some then create a biotype, see whether you can get them to breed :)

When i get "bored" of my tanks, I always set my mind down to meticulously planning the next one.

I find the most interest in keeping fish in the most realistic habitats possible. For instance, Angels in an amazon styled tank using peat and blackwater to give it the tea-water style look.

Or an African Cichlid tank, encompassing a particular lake (malawi/tanganiyika etc), and that doesn't limit you just to nice looking cichlids, you can also hold interesting catfish types and oddballs.

Other things to look at I guess would be breeding fish, keeping species tanks (possibly oddballs)etc.

Your options are never ending!

What do expect lol thats what u want ur tank to be. Or do you want to take a charllenge of disease. Trust me it ain't as fun as u expect. I always fell good to look at my fish eating and swimming arround never fell bored.

You should try SW, maybe even take advantage of our rockin' nano section.
Great people in there like SH and Parker have a lot of experience, and offer great advice.
Nanos take patience, something I'm struggling with.
I seem to have the attention span of a fish, and thats not good when i want to get something done.
Like accomplishing this nano.
It takes a long time to get everything perfect and looking great, and there's always something you need to do or buy.
But then again, here I am, typing away, not paying any attention to my nano, because i'm wait for some algey, something I never thought I'd need to do :shifty:
