After much research I am off to purchase some bolivian rams on Thursday. I have a 240l tank current occupants are 11 zebra danio, 8 cory cats and 6 mollies also 6 amano shrimp. Even after much reading I am unsure on the numbers to buy?, hoping to get 4 - 2 males and 2 females but with really young fish will probably be hard to sex.

Is this a good number?

what happens if i ended up with 4 males, would I have to rehouse some, or is the tank big enough?

any help appreciated - got my heart set on these :D

I want some of these too - will be watching this thread for more info on them... :shifty:

I have two males in a 36 gallon. No conflict... Not like GBRs. If you do end up with all males they will be fine as long as they each have a cave to claim as their own.

i have a group of 7 in my tank and i think i have 3 females and 4 males. they all get on pretty well except when they spawn, so far ive had 2 pairs form from the group.

they are very hard to sex if not impossible at a young age and the only real way of sexing them is by looking at their breeding tubes. females are wider and point more down and males are more pointy and face back a bit. in the lfs they will probably be too young and not 1005 happy so their bits wont be visible. if you can sex them then try and get equal of each sex or all males if poss.

they are great fish and colour up superb once settled, possibly better than GBR's and much easier to care for :good:

I got my Bolivian Rams Today! :D :D

Went to the LFS with intention of purchasing 4 - they had 6 in stock, felt guilty leaving 2 so bought all 6!

bit young to sex properly but assistant thought they were 4 female and 2 males, they been in tank about 20 minutes and are AWESOME.

Set up plenty of caves, and used plants and other ornaments to hide lines of sight so fingers crossed no problems.

you wont regret getting the 6 instead of 4 mate they are so much better in bigger groups :good:
