As it says my second female spawned this evening chose the spawning rock quite well...

advice now, last time all the eggs went after about 4 days

so how best to save them, maybe move to breeding trap/net or leave them with the mother? i have corys , otto's and cardinals in the tank. Both parents are doing a great job chasing would be 'snufflers' away.

The male is currently fertilizing them, then the mother rolls them and he goes again.

This always happens the evening before my weekly water change - i take it the w/c is still ok and won't disrupt proceedings too much.

any advice would be great

Is this a pretty new pairing? If so they may take a few attempts to get it right. I have lost a number of spawnings but they get there in the end. :)

I would be tempted to let them get to wriggler stage then try and 'block' the entrance a little to the pot which creates a smaller opening for the male to guard whilst the female tends to the eggs. This is what i have done with my Honduran Red Points and they have them free swimming this time. They spawned about 3 times before this one (with me) and have always eaten the eggs. If you are considering moving fish then dont move the rams or eggs. Move the corys and cardinals if you want to, but it's upto you.

Good luck. :good:

well i woke up this morning to find all the eggs gone, saw the female eating the last, this is the first spawn with this female. I think i will place the eggs in a breeding net next time and see if theres any difference, although the male and female took care quite well , both seen to take turns fanning them and removing debris from the spawn site and around the eggs.

strange thing is i have 2 females one big male, he swaps partners after each spawn...so this time this females first spawn. I was going to get another male so that i have 2 pairs but this male seems to like both females, albeit not at the same time.

i thought Rams once paired ' its for life ' mine seem to have disproved this.

just a thought but maybe a tank divider once the eggs are laid?
