Hello everyone.
:)
I recently inherited a bolivian ram from a lfs.
I took it home even though I knew it's eyes had a grey spot on each of them.
It's almost as thought the fish has cataracts.
(it's in quarantine)
Anyone know what it might be?

Ps: It's not pop eye, or any kind of fungus/bacteria either.
I've seen this fish at this paticular store for months now with this problem.

Need size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
They are definately spots and not a grey film on on the eye.
Any signs for flicking and rubbing against objects or laboured breathing.
Any other symtoms on the body of the fish.

How big are the spots, are they like grains of salt size, as whitespot can effect the eye and they can be white to a greyish colour.

Thanks for the reply Wilder.
The quarantine tank it's currently in is 10 gallons.
However, the tank size has nothing to do with the grey "spot" on each of its eyes.

As I mentioned in the original post, this paticular fish already had the spot on each eye at the lfs, not after I brought it home.
I've discussed the issue with the store owner a few times in the last 6, maybe even 10 months, it's been that way a long time now.

I felt bad for it, so did the owner of the lfs, so he gave it to me out of pure sympathy for the ram, otherwise it would of been on it's own. (he had two left, I bought the healthy looking one only and he gave me the other for free).

(The store owner is actually a sponser and mod over at plantgeek.com) :good:

Anyways, it's not ich or fungus...it may be some sort of bacterial infection, but one I or the owner have never come across before.
It's one small "grey" spot on each eye, in the indentical spot on each eye.

Have you ever seen a human with cataracts? This actually looks exactly the same.

Just so things arent left to answer:
Tank size 10 g quarantine tank (approx 3 yr old system)
Ammonia-0ppm
Nitrite-0ppm
Nitrate-0pm
Filter-aquaclear 150 (overkill)
No flashing, laboured breathing or any other sign of what is considered a problem.
He's feeding normally and swimming normally too.
I'm currently feeding him/her frozen bloodworm and mosquito larvae.
Treated with melafix and pimafix as a precautionary measure.

Can you tell if there is an indention or bump or anything where the spots are? I think cateracts cause a slight indention. I'm not positive though. I would have to look it up again. It has been a while. I would think it is possible though.

You know when you look at a fish birds eye view?
You can see the fish's eyes on the side of its head right.
Now, imagine seeing a little grey spot "within" that eyeball.
I just noticed that, I can see that the spot is actually in the eye.
It's got to be cataracts.

Don't know what it is then, all I know is that white speck on the eye is eye flukes.
