Hi all

Have bought some play sand (silver sand?) from argos, have washed it in tap water till the water is clear (it started off with a good brown head on it)

However, a colleague of my partner is insisting the sand be boiled, and then rinsed in treated (dechlorinated) water before putting in the tank.

I've never heard that mentioned here in all my months of lurking, but I thought i'd check just to make sure

TIA

I honestly do not think that neccesary - unless your tank was infested with a serious disease. Just very rinse well and throw in some dechlorinator.

 ive never heard of that either, weird!

like bloozoo says, i could only see that being necessary if there was somthing nasty contaminating it already

Thanks. I figured it seemed a bit over the top. Its the Argos non toxic play sand, that after some washing now runs clear, so I think i'll leave it at that :)

The only reason I could think of that needing to be done would be if the sand had come into contact with any thing that could only be removed with the use of heat (any kind of additives, catalysts).

But as its Argos play sand, and is safe (kind of) for kids to eat (kind of) then I'm with the other two.

Hmm Sounds really strange to me.

To be honest if my sand was deaseased i'd just replace it. i mean at £2.50 a bag who can complain.
