I set my first tropical aquarium up last week end and added my pre-soaked bogwood. Returned home from holiday today and my tank is brownish red and bogwood is covered in red slimy stuff. Help!!!

Run some black carbon, and boil the bogwood again.

Yes, how long has the carbon been in the tank as I would add a new one.

Take out the bog wood, that's causing the water discoloration.

If it'll fit in a saucepan, boil it for a few minutes, change the water, boil it for a few minutes, change the water..... I've done this with mine, I did about 10 boil and water changes then left it in a bucket of dechlorinated water overnight, just to make sure no more tanins were going to leach out, worked a charm. The boiling should also kill any algae growing on it as well.
