Bogwood And Oto's

Hi all,

I have been thinking about removing my Bogwood which has plants attached to it, The only realy reason for the bogwood is that a read somewhere that the Oto's and Cory's liked it, I have not actually seen either of them chomping on it though, Would it be o.k. to remove it?

neither will eat the wood. the otos will eat any algae on the wood or plant and the cory willuse it as a hideout. i think the only fish that eat wood are certain plecos

Yeah only some Pleco's have wood as part of their natural diet. Other fish just graze on the wood, like my Red Tail and Border Loaches.
Personally I think a tank looks good with bogwood, wether it is being used or not by the fish.

The only benefit that the bogwood brings to the otto is the additional algae that gathers on it. Other than that its not necessary. Like james said, some plecos need bogwood to help digest there food or something like that, bt not ottos.

As others have said, Ottos and Corydoras don't require wood. The plus side to having it though is the natural look, a great hiding place and naturally lowers your PH.
