Hi all,

I have just bought some Bog wood for my tank, my question is do i have to do something to it before i put it in my tank?

I would advise soaking it in a bucket of tap water for a couple of weeks at least before adding it to your tank.
New bogwood often leaks tannins into the water which will not harm your fish but can turn the water very yellow.
Some people like this effect as it looks quite natural but personal I like my water to be crystal clear.
So as I say soak it for a couple of weeks and change the water a couple of time if it goes really dark, this will speed up the removal of tannins. :)

Place in boiling water for 20 mins then soak in water for at least 24 hours.

If new longer has will release lots of tanins at first

You could just rinse and scrub it very lightly with a soft bristle brush (like a brand new or fish dedicated pot cleaning brush).

But depending on the type of wood, it might leech tannins and stain your water the colour of weak tea.
This is not harmful to your fish in any way. However some people soak their wood in a bucket full of hot water for a week or two first to get rid of the majority of tannins. This can be done by changing the water daily for hot or boiling water. However I'd advise *not* to boil your wood. I've found that this often reduces the quality of the wood and cause wood to degrade quicker.
