Hi I got a bocourti from a friend needed it gone as was being attacked in their tank, roughly 4/5”
I put in with my Americans and well wasn’t left alone for 2 seconds constantly being chased and harassed, so put it in with my severums, again chased and nearly killed by severums smaller then it. So last resort I had to put it in my community tank for now with 7 dwarf bufferly cichlids, Congo tetras, rainbows other kind of tetras can’t remember their names and plates/swords.

Would this work long time if I put them in a bigger tank so he/she could live with them as he/she isn’t getting bullied and don’t seem bothered by any of the fish and seems quite happy with them.

If so I’m happy to upgrade their tank next week.

Many thanks

@AquaBarb is your man for these stunning fish :)

From what I know but not kept them - They do have a good reputation for being quite peaceful despite their big adult size, not sure how Platies would fare long term but I think that the other fish you mentioned should do well with them, being a central american they need slightly harder water which the rainbows and livebearers will do well with - the seriously fish profile for Congo Tetras has them tolerating a wide range too, though I'm not sure on the dwarf butterflies.

Beautiful fish though so if you can house them properly definitely one to hold on to!

Yes I’ve tried researching them but very limited on what there is that is the reason I come here to ask fellow fish keepers on their thoughts.
I read they are quite peaceful and can’t have too much protein, wood eaters, plant eaters etc that’s the best I got 😆
There was someone on a different forum keeping them with small barbs with good results.
So maybe if Aquabarb can chime in and give his thoughts would be really appropriated :) would love to keep it it is stunning :)

Also forgot to add there are small clown loaches I’m growing out and panda corys too

I think as long a you use a bit of common sense in terms of not keeping fish too small for them to eat (same way as your Severums etc) you should be fine. The real challenge with them is housing their huge adult size.

Sorry about late reply, ive not been online for a good while.

Beautiful species the Bocourti 😍 mine are probably around 11/12" now. Currently in with other Centrals, Denison barbs, Colombian Tetra's, Pictus Catfish and a green phantom pleco.

Generally peaceful for a such a big cichlid however they could easily eat smaller fish. Chunky thick bodied Tetras, barbs, rainbows etc should be fine but slender bodied fish wouldnt fair well.

Id worry about your smaller fish like the platies/swords long term has the bocourti grows and gets bigger.
