Hi all I'm thinking of getting a BN pleco saw some in the pet shop and like them a lot. If been reading online and some people say bn plecos stress and kill corys and some say they don't can someone help me with this don't want to get one and it be a mistake.

Never heard of a BN causing any stress in a tank lol Ive been waiting to get one myself and I have a ton of cories :)

Good good I'm happy about that then I nearly got one there and then. I've made the mistake before on an impulse buy before but I wanted to check with this forum first lol

well kudos to you for doing some research first. Ive learned the hard way as well, and it's always better to wait and look into things first. :good:

I have 2 fully grown BN plecs both male and female and assorted corys - never had a problem

ive got 6 sterbai corys and 2 bn plecs and they are all fine

go for it

Thanks all for you help il get one tomorrow:)

The only "stress" my BN does to my cories is when he finds an algae wafer they might be eating and it then becomes his, and his alone :D

Agreed. My BN plec pushes my copies away from the food he wants, but never harms them. They hang out in the same "caves" together and get along famously. I've never seen any aggression from my plec, other than, as I said, to claim food that he wants, like the algae wafer phantom referenced. But other than that, he does his own thing and leaves everything else alone.

I have breeding bristle noses with corys and there is never any issue, they are two species of fish that get along well together and have similar water requiements.
Just make sure that you have some bogwood for the BN to rasp on and hide in or under. When young you will see BN;'s out and about alot but as they mature they tend to get more elusive.

I have a 60 gallon (4ft) tank with a diatom outbreak :gross: would two little bns be too many? i know right now there is enough, but I don't want to run into any issues later down the road with them not having enough. I plan to give them zucchini and i already have algae wafers.

Yah you've got plenty of space for 2. BNs aren't algae dependent like say otos. They will eat anything you put in the tank - though once they get bigger and your tank is all sparkling clean you'll want to be sure to give them a specialized wafer one or twice a week, in addition to regular veggies to make sure they get all they need.

I like the large hikari algae wafers for my guys :)

I got 2 today as the misses liked them and I can tell the difference between the 2 they have been in my tank like 3 hours and one 1 of them has completely cleaned a leaf of diatoms lol
My tank is now stocked how I like it just need shrimp still got no idea on them
