Blue's Pfk Nano+50g Journal

I'm looking forward to watching this progress! Similarly, this will stop my waiting for my nano, from driving me insane. What do you think of the filter? I read somewhere that it was quite noisy.

it is a little noisy, makes like a clickyish? sort of sound-its not bad though

the plants came today :) just put them in.

as you can see the aquascaping is nonexistant-more like 'try to fit all the plants in scaping'

when your planting you realise how small the tank is particually in height-its also very fiddley getting them all in the gravel.

choosing the right plants for the final scaping will be very important

with a couple of plants i had to cut them in half so they would fit! hope they will be ok.

also ive added my first fishey! the swordtail had fry last night and this was the only one i could see when i got home  so i put him in(temporarily)

id like to add that i got the plants from plantsalive.co.uk

i dont want to bash them but ill say this:

they didnt sent the complete order-and they had 10 days delivery time
1 plant was basically dead, unuseable
2 others were in quite a bad state
the packaging was bad and was leaking

not recomended then...

i have emailed them with this.

Nice one.

'try to fit all the plants in scaping'

Hahaha, thats great.

Make sure the plants dont interfere with the CO2 ladder.

Will take note on the plant service.

I have also heard not too good things about Plants Alive....similar thing, plants either really small or pretty much dead.

The ones in the tank look nice though, a fair selection :)

little tank is doing ok- the plants are pearling, not like i see in some pics but there is defenatly lots of lill bubbles coming off of them.

about the filter, it is quite powerful-the plants are ok but the sword fry is getting blown about a fair bit, he is very small so ill put it down to that. the filters clicking seems to be louder-or is it me noticing it more, not sure but it is annoying :p

update on the 50 g. the 2 nutrifin bottles were delivered the same day as the plants, there up and running. i put in 3/4 teaspoon of yeast. one of them leaked a little of the mix into the tank-luckily i was looking at the tank when it happened! B) and could stop the leak.

i refilled the bottle with just over a 1/2 teaspoon of yeast and also move the ladder higher up the tank, so that less pressure from the co2 bottle is needed to push the co2 in. not sure if it make any difference, but i did it anyway.

If you cut a piece off of a fish net and then attach it to the uptake tube via a rubber band, you'll make sure that your little swordtail won't get sucked into the filter. Yes, you can cut stemplants in half, and plant both halves, the top half will grow straight and tall, while the bottom half will sprout side shoots and may become weaker over time, but usually not with good care.

Nice little PFK, still jealous of all you overseas people with their pretty new tanks.

llj :)
