I have a 30 gallon hex tank, and I've been wondering since I saw these cool looking fish in the LFS if I can have them in my tank. This is of course after my tank is cycled.. Also what other fish can I put in the tank with them?
tetras, gouramis, danios, livebearers- and the list goes on.
you'll want something to dither the fish. It might want to hide if it doesnt see other fish swimming around signalling that it is ok to swim around.
I believe that the ram will want to stay towards to bottom, so you'll want something that will swim at other levels of the tank. See the fish index for more information (under German Blue Ram)
How many rams should you put together? Would cory catfish, honey gouramis, a few platies after the tank cycled, some tetras be alright? What I meant is the platies will be in the tank 1st after the tank is cycled.
Alright, I've heard they like the bottom all by themself so should I forget about the cories and get something else? Also are the very sensitive about water conditions?
I'm thinking about this maybe
2 Blue rams
5 honey gouramis or a couple pearl gouramis
3 platies
6-7 glolite tetras
I'd say you'd probably be alright with a pair of rams(1 male, 1 female). As for the others just keep in mind that some of those like to be in schools, so just keep that in mind.
Ive never fishless cycled before, but as I understand it, if you do it correctly you should be able to add more than just a few platies after the cycle is complete. Of course, it never hurts to add slowly.
I have Blue Rams with Corys, but my tank is a 29-gallon "regular shape". Haven't had any problems. I did see one of the Rams try to bite one of the Otos once the other day, but then the Ram left him alone. I think they're spawning...they've got a depression dug in the sand and the male stays by it a lot. They're in with Neons, Corys, Kuhli Loaches, Otos, a Guppy, and an SAE. Haven't had any troubles. I just love the Rams!
Thats cool, well I have a smaller surface area so thats why I removed cories from the list just so I don't have an territory problems. They are really cool looking fish.
