I have 2 blue rams which were purchased at different times. Im almost 100% certain I have a male and a female.

Male: Extended pointy dorsal fin, extended pelvic and anal fins, black on pelvic fins. Does NOT have a black spot though.

Female: Rounded dorsal fin, shorter pelvic and anal fins, pink belly and rounder body, black on pelvic fins. Does NOT have black spot either.

Is the presence of a black spot indicative of sex? I would think the fins would be more of an indication and the absence or the presence of a pink belly would tell more.

Now one problem I am having is they haven't paired up(I am aware that I should get more than 1 female and let them pair up naturally), will they pair up eventually even if they dont have a choice of mates, how long does that usually take? Also my male is currently smaller than the female due to being a younger age, could that be the problem? I know that can be an issue with Kribensis but they are a completely different dwarf cichlid. The male is about 1/4th inch smaller than the female.

The two dont chase each other, most of the time they dont even seem to notice each other except when they happen to meet in the tank and usually the female makes a motion towards the male and then they swim away from each other afterward.
