Blue Rams

Hello Guys

I have been pondering something a LFS said....they were talking about different strains of Blue Rams....and were saying something like ....Asian ones are not that good?

Can anyone shed some light onto this comment??

Hmmm... Doesn't really make much sense to me


Normally, for Cichlids, many are produced in Asia, but a lot of them are inbred, bad blood lines, or do not have much F1 in them. A lot of times they also give them steroids to make them grow faster and get better color.

I might note I am not saying all producers do such things, but the big farms most fish are imported from have good probability.

As for strains, the only variations of the Blue ram that I have heard of are the Balloon Ram and the Gold Ram.


Now, with all that said, I would not worry about Ram too much. They aren't hard to find, or expensive. Meet their needs (clean water especially) and you should have some pretty happy fish with no strings attached.

I got the feeling they were saying that ones from asian were not as colourful

Myabe they were talking about them being shipped over from there?
