Ok so about a week ago I went to petsmart and found some "blue rams" for sale and right away I bought them .

There in a 40g tank with one angle and 5 black shirt tertas
They seem fine but the small rams picks on my big one .

What brings me here is how doe I care for them?

I know i have to do a weekley 20% water change.
and ive been think of adding peat but i dont know what kind it get.

Things that I have already got are

Api ph down

Prime freshwater for chlorine chlorammine ammonia detoxfies nitrite and nitrate

And api ammo lock

My first question here is, how long has this tank been set up? Are you familiar with the 'cycling' process that establishes a bacteria colony in the filter which in turn removes harmful ammonia and nitrite from the water? If not, have a read of the cycling threads in the beginners section and then come back here with any questions.

blue rams are fairly delicate fish, then need a low pH and soft water - do you know the pH of your water? If so, how have you tested it?

the bickering you are seeing between them may just be them establishing a heirarchy between themselves to see who is 'boss'. Is it happening constantly or occassionally?

yes my tank has been up for about a year

I dont know my ph put im pretty sure its above 7.0 ph because last time i checked my tap water comes out at 7.8ph

also i think they may be males
it seems to be most happing when ever the big ram goes in to the small rams space but some times the small ram will just go after the big one for no reason

Now the little ram is going afther my angle fish. Should I just get rid of it?

Be sure they all have some cover that they can call home. They're territorial and appreciate nooks and crannies. Typically mine will only go after those who get in his space. I'd just monitor for a few days and reassess

Do you think if I add a female it would make the ram less aggressive. Or would make them go crazy.

+2

Dont just add a female and don't use ph down. Also I recommend more like 30% weekly water changes. What filter media do you use in what filter? How big is your tank? What is your complete stocking list?

I use aque tech cartridges made for the 30 to 60 gallons tank . 18x18x36 or 40gallon breeder tank. I have 1 angle 5 cherry barbs 5 black skirt terta and,2 male blue rams
