One of my rams started breathing Heavy a couple of days ago so i quickly tested my water, Everything seemed fine, then the next day another one of my rams started breathing fast and they both hide in the corners and don't move much. They don't even come up to eat, so i did a water change, next day the first ram that was breathing really fast died :( so i went to my LFS took some of my water so he could test and make sure everything was fine, he tested the water and told me my water was perfect. i told him about my rams he gave me this parasite treatment stuff, i added the tablet to my tank and this morning i got up and looked at my ram, he was still breathing really fast and he was swollen like double the size of what he use to be.

His also lost alot of his color, his all pale now :(

Here's some pictures....

Any ideas on whats wrong with him?

PARA-CIDE

Writes on the bottle controls external parasite infestations..

This happened with both of my rams earlier in the year. Rapid breathing, loss of colour and then mobility slowed down dramatically and then death. I put it down to a PH incompatability, even though as a newbie at the time my LFS told me my PH would be fine for RAMS. My water at the time was PH7.8 and I've since heard on this board and others that they need more acidic water. What is the PH of your water?

thats a good point, can you test the pH? all parasites can spread. But if its the pH then they should be ok as long as the pH is ok for them

Ok i just tested my PH and it's around 6.7, so when i go to my LFS tomorrow what should i be asking for?

that doesnt sound too bad? Im not sure what the ideal is for rams though. I would ask for a med that treats internal parasites, but wait til someone with mre experience answers as they will have a better idea.

Yep the PH is fine for rams, thanks for the help zoekin8yg & sussexgirl :) hopefully someone replies by tomorrow.

The scales look very much like pine cones indicating it could be an early stage of dropsy often a secondary problem resulting from either bacterial or parasite infection:

Check this link out:

If wilder pops on she will more than likely shed some light on the issue for you.

External parasites can cause bacterial infections, also laboured breathing could of been the dropsy with the build up of fluids.
Internal parasites, bloating up, being thin, sunken in belly, deformaties, red enlarged inflamed anus, long stringy white poo, or worm prutruding from the anus.

My LFS was closed today :( My ram has pine cone scales now :( He will probably die tomorrow. I think it might of spread to my other rams, they don't look to good.

Sorry R.I.P.
All you can do is add a bacterial med, and if there really bloated espon salt bath meant to help the fish draw the fluids out.
